Sickness

School Process: Following Up absences

Class registers are passed to the school office at the end of the registration period. Where there are unexplained or unauthorised absences, the school will contact the parents/carers on the day.

If a pattern of unauthorised absences emerges, a leader, DSL or class teacher will contact the parent/carer to discuss possible reasons and school support systems that could help.

Sickness and diarrhoea:

Is school policy for pupils and staff not to return to school until 48 hours after the last symptoms.

We are strict with this procedure because of the contagious nature and the risk to other vulnerable children.

Medical appointments:

If your child needs to attend a special appointment please contact the school office or inform the class team.

Special absence requests:

Headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Bearing this in mind families are strongly urged to avoid requesting special leave or taking family holidays during term-time. If circumstances are exceptional, the Headteacher and chair of governors may grant leave of absence.

Requests must be made directly to the Headteacher in writing at least 3 weeks in advance of the leave being taken. In cases of unforeseen circumstances such as family illness or bereavement, special leave can be granted immediately at the discretion of the Headteacher.
A form requesting special leave absence is available from the school office or on the page this link takes you to. (Pupils Special leave request)

Religious observance:

Chapel Green School recognises that there may be times where children of different faiths observe religious festivals that fall outside of school holidays.

Authorised absence will be allowed for these times, please fill in the  (Pupils Special leave request) form.
